The 2011 Barossa Valley Marathon was raced today in ideal conditions with a stack of triathletes taking part. Professional Ironman Triathletes Matty White and Josh Rix took out first and second place respectively in the men's race, but Matty White had a fairly comfortable winning margin finishing in about 1:09 on the out-and-back course. The event was Matty's final hit out before competing in the Challenge Cairns event next week and he looked very strong.
In the women's field, a great result by Krystal - who broke away from the rest of the field at about the 8km mark and was never headed to win in a finishing time of about 1:22. Ella also had a fantastic race finishing in about 1:28 in her first half marathon.
The 5km, 10km and half marathon event attracted a field of more than 980 competitors. TriSA Junior Development Program athletes in the 5km and 10km event included Tom Currie, Sam Tebeck, Catherine Clohesy, John Martinez, and Isabella Hood - and all performed well with PBs to Tom and John (and maybe others).
